History

Serano was founded in 1974 by Evangelos and Olga Neophytou and since then has grown to be one of the largest family run firms on the island holding over 65% of the country’s market. The owners and founders of Serano continue to have the vision of producing and marketing the highest quality nuts and of expanding their company’s reputation abroad.

After the devastation of the war in 1974, Evangelos Neophytou and his family were forced to leave their home and move to the unoccupied territory of Cyprus where they needed to re-establish themselves. Having experience in the trade industry and, more specifically with nuts, they began to think about opening a company specializing in nuts and dried fruits. After consulting with suppliers in Paphos, Evangelos was able to begin work in Nicosia selling nuts and so the dream began.

In the early and difficult years after the war, most of the products were sorted and prepared by hand by the couple themselves having only one machine to help in the cracking of the nuts. The company started by manufacturing  redskin peanuts, and when the product slowly began to sell filling the shelves in stores across the island. A further expansion of the product range was decided. Today Serano manufactures a complete range of dried nuts and dried fruits, traditional brittle bars and coconut snacks.

In 1976 Serano rented its first grounds in Pallouritissa, Nicosia and hired its first three employees. The family was able to equip their new grounds with more machines allowing them to work on a larger scale and to experiment with different types of nuts and other related products.

Serano continues to grow and develop its industry across the island expanding its clientele. In 1987 the first member of the second generation, Maria Neophytou, established herself in the firm . From this point Serano products began to sweep the country and the first plans were made to proceed with new manufacturing facilities. In 1998 and 1999 respectively the two younger sons, Yiannos and Antonis joined the company and contributed to the development of sales and operations.

With the whole family now working rigorously towards one common goal, Serano was able to achieve its targets of expansion having already succeeded in holding over 65% of Cyprus’ Market. The company finally moved to its new, state of the art factory in the industrial area of Dali in Nicosia in 2012, taking on board over 100 employees and having over 40 years of success on its back.

Serano now exports its products in more than 20 countries around the world.
